Guess you could call me a tree hugger. It’s not that I’m a big environmentalist or anything. It’s just that I often have the urge to give a beautiful tree a great big hug.
Today was no exception. A windstorm blew through Southern Ontario the other day, knocking down signs and toppling big trees.
At the far [...]

Day 193: Phone a friend
I’m sure you’ve seen the little plastic or cardboard donation boxes sitting beside the cash register at your local variety store or donut shop.
They’re usually filled with nickels and pennies left over from customer purchases. I don’t often use them because, to be honest, I wonder if the coins inside ever get to the charities.
Well, [...]

Day 192: Playing ketchup
I was good-deed multitasking today at the supermarket. First, I returned a few carts to the collection spot in the parking lot.
Then, I noticed the most angelic looking little girl quietly rolling tins out of her parents’ shopping cart onto the floor. Dressed all in pink, she sat in the top of the cart while [...]

Day 191: Taking a stand
Today I made a donation to Stand Up To Cancer an organization devoted to funding innovative cancer research.
I don’t know anyone whose life hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, an estimated 166,400 new cases of cancer and 73,800 deaths will occur in Canada in 2008.
I lost [...]

Day 190: My little pony
I wasn’t planning to brave the Boxing Day madness at the mall today — I’ll blame my friend Sandra.
She told me that in order to put more fun (and less expense) into Christmas Day, her family was going to gift each other exclusively from the dollar store.
I casually mentioned the idea to my sister and [...]

Day 189: Joyeux Noël
I’d like to wish you a very peaceful Christmas and a New Year filled with love and hope.
I’ve been fortunate to be able to spend the day with family and made a real effort to think about all those who were not so fortunate today. Those who had to work, were in hospital, overseas on [...]

Day 188: Ho! Ho! Ho!
When I ventured outside to shovel the ice off my neighbour’s steps this morning, little did I know the temperature would spike to four degrees above freezing. (Or that the afternoon rain would wash the steps clean.) Knew I should have checked the weather channel.
Oh well, I needed the exercise anyway.
And since I had to [...]

Day 187: Sick day deed
I was feeling under the weather today – like I’d been run over by a rather large truck.
So my good deed was done by proxy. I didn’t plan it that way, as I mention on the “About Me” page, my lovely husband, Guy, inspires me every day with the kindness he shows to strangers and [...]

Day 185: Song in his heart
Had a very quiet day, good-deed wise. I did hold the door open for some frozen parishioners trying to rush into church and get out of the cold.
About half way through the service, I also spotted a pair of gloves that had slid off the pew in front of me onto the floor. They were [...]
