Day 295: Good search deeds

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

You might call what I did today, “good deed googling.” Believe it or not, at the website, you can donate to charity just by searching the Internet.

I know, sounds too good to be true. Here’s the blurb from their site:

“ Just start using Yahoo! powered as your search engine and we’ll donate a penny to your favorite cause every time you do a search! And it’s free. The money GoodSearch donates comes from its advertisers … Read about GoodSearch in the NY Times, Oprah Magazine, CNN, ABC News and the Wall Street Journal.”

Here’s one of the charities that has benefited from GoodSearching:

Before and after.
Before and after.

Humane Society of Greater Akron
Dear GoodSearch,
Here are before/after photos of the dog that helped.

His name is Snoopy. He is an eight-month-old American Bulldog mix. He was hit by a car and rescued by the HSGA about two months ago.

His leg was badly fractured, with multiple cracks and micro-fractures. The veterinarian wasn’t sure if his leg could be saved. But at his size it is very important to save the leg if possible. He went to a special veterinarian who placed pins and wires in his leg. He wore a cast for six weeks, which has since been removed. His pin will come out in two weeks and the wires will remain for life. The veterinarian feels he will make a full recovery and is a fantastic dog!

The cost of the surgery was approx $500. When you figure in the costs of neutering, vaccines, Heartworm preventative, de-worming, micro chipping, food and shelter for 2 months, the total sits around $850.

Thanks to GoodSearch, Snoopy has a second chance at life and will find an amazing home. One cent really does make a difference when you add it all up!

I had fun good-deed googling, and found what I was looking for, to boot. A good search, indeed!

P.S. Thought this video was very cool (thanks, dj!): Grand Central Station subway freeze. Enjoy!
