The everyday heroes I spotlight are usually individuals, but today I’d like to give a virtual high-five to the urban prankster group Improv Everywhere.
This “prank” brightened the day of its subjects, all the people participating and the random travellers at the airport. How cool is that? According to their website the group likes to cause “scenes of chaos and joy in public places.” Joy? In public? Sounds like a good deed to me.
Turns out, my hometown has a chapter — Improv in Toronto — similarly dedicated to “making our own day, while affecting other people in a positive way.” I’ve signed up for news about their next “mission” and will keep you posted!
An upcoming event will be held at Dundas Square from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in honour of International Free Hugs Day, July 4th (who knew?).
Now, as friendly as this city can be, I wouldn’t describe it as particularly “huggy,” so I can’t wait!
P.S. You can find out if your city has a chapter by visiting the Urban Prankster Network. Have fun!
