I bought a glass of virtual lemonade today from Toronto 12-year-old Amanda Belzowski’s online Lemonade Stand. Not all that refreshing on a hot day, but the money spent will support the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
My brother told me about Amanda’s real-life lemonade stand, which she runs every May, but I’d missed the chance to get an actual drink, so I checked online and was happy to find her virtual beverages for sale!
This kid is something else. This year alone, her stand raised more than $24,000 for the cause and her supporters range from Toronto Argonaut Pinball Clemons to Donald Trump himself.
Amanda opened up her first lemonade stand several years ago and decided to donate the money to the foundation in honour of her great-grandfather, who had an artificial heart valve. “I’m doing it for him,” she told one reporter. “You’re never too young to help for the good of the world and also you can do something no matter what. You can help no matter what.” I told you she was something else!
