It had been a while since I strolled around the neighbourhood, so I though it was high time today. It’s amazing what you miss as the weeks go by. New fences have gone up, one’s about to fall down and a couple of trees have been pruned back within an inch of their lives.
But some things don’t change, like the fascinating assortment of discarded drinking vessels adorning the sidewalk and decorating the lawns. (I jest.)
So I did my collection (only a small one this time … filled the long, narrow bag my newspaper comes in) and was able to put most of it in the recycling bin. There were water bottles (some of which I had to unscrew the lid and empty … ewwwww), coffee cups, pop cans and even one small chocolate milk carton.
Now, if you have any clues as to why beverage drinkers seem to make up a disproportionately large segment of the littering public, please share. I’m strangely fascinated by this phenomenon.
