My husband and I attended a church service this morning on behalf of my late in-laws. In his sermon, the white-haired pastor gave probably the most beautiful description of the Epiphany … the revelation by the three wise men of the birth of the infant Jesus … I’d ever heard.
The pastor spoke of “the sweet truth” of the hope, the joy, the love that The Magi awoke to that first Christmas Day and I could picture my father-in-law nodding and smiling at every word.
It was a very moving service and, at the end, the pastor asked everyone to consider making a donation to the St. Vincent de Paul charity collection before they left.
His words reminded me that I never saw my father-in-law leave a church without first stopping to deposit something in the little wooden collection box for the poor that usually sits near the exit. So today I made sure I did the same.
I could picture him nodding and smiling at that, too ….
P.S. Ya, okay, I know the holidays are over, but couldn’t resist one more song (performed live on Larry King). Enjoy!
